Volunteer: Michael StuartVolunteer Michael Stuart

Michael has been volunteering with Foundation Communities as a Job Coach and helping case managers with a resident support group.

"I started volunteering with Foundation Communities to be part of making a lasting difference. With just a few hours of time, I help others build the skills and inner hope needed to break free of negative cycles. Foundation Communities goes beyond providing immediate shelter and resources to helping individuals and families succeed in life.

"I am often amazed at how a listening ear, a few tips on a resume or simply expressing encouragement can help turn a life around. The opportunity to be involved with Foundation Communities is one of the most rewarding things I do.

"I no longer just wish that poverty and homelessness did not exist; I am part of the solution."

Lovely and Daughter

Volunteer: Sandra Starsiakova

Through Foundation Communities' Financial Coaching program, Sandra volunteers directly with clients to help them better understand their finances, expenses and how to be more financially fit.

"I wanted to be more involved with the community, and something that really seemed interesting to me was helping people financially. Finances are such a big part of people's lives and something that I have always wanted to learn more about.

"I looked around at different nonprofits, at their websites and liked what Foundation Communities was about. I really liked that they wanted to help people with financial issues like taxes and housing.

"It was particularly great to work with a client named Lovely because she was so interested in learning about her finances. She has two kids and didn't know a lot about how to budget or save. We met for 10 coaching sessions, and it was really special to see her get organized, and see her learn to be financially responsible. She enjoyed being coached, which thrilled me."
